Whats Happening ?

The gates have to be widened by approximately 16 inches on both opening edges but first the existing mitres have to be cut off to provide a square edge to which the extensions can be firmly fixed.  Having marked out the piece which is to be cut off Adrian applies his chain saw while Trevor checks the cutting for squareness.  The cutting proves to be much more straight forward than either of them had imagined and they are both very pleased with the line of the cut and the good heart of the wood exposed.  They next cut to width, two of the sections of oak to be attached. A large portable electric circular saw is hired for the afternoon and duly applied to the wood,.  The oak is very hard and the saw struggles but eventually the timbers are reduced to the required size.
